Cheryl Hull, CPA
Cheryl was raised in Redding until her family moved to Billings, Montana when she was 13. Cheryl attended school in Billings and completed her first year of college at Eastern Montana College by the time she graduated from high school.
Cheryl got a jump start on her college career before she and her family left Montana for Boise, Idaho where it slowed a little. Cheryl worked full time in the accounting field while attending Boise State University part time. She ultimately earned a Bachelors of Business Administration, Accounting from Boise State University in 1978.
Cheryl worked at Coopers & Lybrand as a tax accountant in Boise, Idaho for two years before moving to Alaska. During her eight years in Anchorage, she worked in a small local accounting firm for Charles Bingham, CPA before establishing her own accounting and tax practice.
In 1989, Cheryl came home to California, living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Cheryl worked in the high tech industry for 16 years before really coming home, moving with her husband and son to “the piney woods” of Shingletown, 30 miles east of Redding.
Cheryl joined D.H. Scott & Company as a Tax Manager in 2006 and enjoys working on all sorts of income tax and general business consulting projects. There are always new challenges and new things to learn, rarely a boring moment at D.H. Scott & Company!
Cheryl has served on the board of Soroptimist International of Downtown Redding since 2009 as treasurer and treasurer-elect. Cheryl also volunteers for Nor-Cal Think Pink, handing out breast cancer awareness information bags and assisting with the Think Pink store at the Sundial Bridge celebration on Think Pink day each October.
Cheryl and her geologist husband enjoy their life in the mountains with their numerous cats and dogs and getting over to the coast to visit their son, daughter-in-law and grandsons. Since returning to the Redding area, Cheryl and her husband like to spend time with family members and childhood friends who still live in the area and lots of new friends who have also come from somewhere else to enjoy beautiful Northern California
Christine M. Rojas, CPA, CISA
Director of Accounting, Auditing and Quality Control
Christy Rojas has been a Manager at D.H. Scott and Company since 2013. She grew up in Cottonwood and went to West Valley High School. From there she went on to study at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting and Information Systems. Upon graduation, Christy worked for the Big 4 accounting firm Ernst & Young in San Francisco. Concurrently, she studied at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana where she graduated magna cum laude with a Master of Science in Accounting. Prior to joining D.H. Scott & Company, Christy worked at EY for nine years, including two years at the Sydney, Australia office, with a focus on financial statement and IT risk related audits and consulting services.
Christy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and provides accounting services for a broad range of clients. She especially enjoys working with not-for-profit entities.
Christy returned to Redding to raise her three young boys and enjoy the active lifestyle that the North State offers. Christy has a daily yoga practice including a home and studio asana practice and a regular meditation practice to experience the union of body, mind and spirit (and keep her sane with three young boys at home). She chooses to opt-outside whenever possible and enjoys camping, snowboarding, swimming, biking and hiking the beautiful lakes, mountains, rivers and trails in our area.
Ron Massey, CPA
Ron Massey obtained his Bachelors of Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting in 2007 from Humboldt State University. Since then Ron has obtained vast tax, accounting, and auditing knowledge by providing valuable tax and accounting services to the local Northern California economy.
Ron obtained his license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in 2012 and began working at D.H. Scott & Company in 2014. While working with the tax and accounting professionals at D.H. Scott & Company, Ron acquired the skills, knowledge and experience needed to provide top quality tax and accounting services to the North State. Ron became a Manager at D.H. Scott & Company in 2017 and provides expert tax, accounting, and auditing services to a wide range of individuals, businesses, not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities.
Ron’s hobbies include fishing, woodworking, and studying music theory. Ron enjoys spending time with his family and community. He enjoys watching his children play soccer; take dance lessons and perform dance routines; learn how to ride horses, fish, and play guitar. Ron and his family enjoy exploring Mt. Shasta and all the natural beauty that the North State has to offer.
Jennifer Patterson, CPA
Jennifer was born and raised in Ketchikan, Alaska. Following high school, she traveled to North Texas; San Francisco Bay Area; San Antonio, TX; and Ramstein, Germany before graduating from Saint Leo University just north of Tampa, Florida summa cum laude.
Jennifer worked at Brett Hendee, PA in Tampa before moving to Stafford, Virginia near Washington, DC. While in Virginia, she worked for The Wolf Group, where she finished the requirements for her CPA license and gained experience in international taxation, and MillerMusmar CPAs. Following her move to Grand Forks, ND she worked for Brady Martz & Associates for three and a half years.
Jennifer moved to Redding with her two children in 2018 when she joined D.H. Scott & Company as a Tax Manager. She is a generalist who prepares and reviews all types of tax returns, including Corporate, Partnership, Individual, Exempt Organization, Trusts and Estates, and others. She maintains her CPA license in both Washington and California and is also a member of the AICPA.
Jennifer is involved in the Northern California Girl Scouts through both her daughters, and participates in the Site Council at their school. She enjoys finding time to explore all the outdoor activities the Redding area has to offer, including hiking, kayaking, skiing, and camping.
Brea B. Small, CPA
Brea started her career in public accounting in 2014 at a mid-sized firm in San Francisco’s Financial District after graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Business Administration and concentration in Accounting. While in San Francisco, she gained extensive experience in auditing, tax, and client accounting services for a variety of industries, including real-estate, financial management, HUD, food and beverage, not-for-profit, and high net-worth individuals.
In 2016, Brea and her husband decided to make the move to Redding where they could enjoy a more quality life closer to family and away from the busy hustle of the city. Brea joined our firm shortly after moving and became a manager in late 2018. She works with a wide range of clients, providing financial statement, auditing and tax services and loves building client relationships and serving as a valued consultant to our clients. Brea’s enthusiasm for helping others succeed doesn’t stop with her accounting work; she has been a key proponent in creating and implementing our formal mentoring, training, and recruiting programs. She works closely with both staff and clients to educate them and provide them with the tools they need to be successful.
Prior to her career in public accounting, Brea worked as an accounting assistant for Cal Poly Corporation’s Controller and Senior Account Manager for several years. She played an integral role in the monthly and annual closing of the books, annual financial statement audit, streamlining processes, and oversaw the activity and funding of over 500 campus programs accounts for all campus departments throughout the year. Through this role, Brea’s passion for accounting, business problem solving, and people really began to flourish, which helped her set a strong foundation for her career in client services in the public accounting sector.
Outside of work, Brea enjoys baking and cooking with her husband and exploring the great North State with their mini-Australian shepherd.
Heather Ransom, CPA
Heather Ransom was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She attended Oglethorpe University where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
She has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant since 1998. While in Atlanta she worked for the Big 4 accounting firms Ernst & Young and Deloitte gaining expertise in the tax field. She also has vast industry experience gained while working in the tax departments of Delta, Cisco and UPS.
When her twin daughters off at college, Heather wanted a change of pace from Atlanta. She made her cross country move in 2019 to join D.H. Scott & Company as a Tax Manager.
Heather, her husband and four dogs loving exploring all Northern California has to offer. They spend downtime hiking, camping and visiting the coast.
