A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FIRM
David H. Scott, who began operations as the only employee, organized D. H. SCOTT & COMPANY in June 1986. Since 1986, D. H. Scott & Company has grown to become one of the largest CPA firms in the Redding area with a staff of 27, including 12 CPA's.
D. H. Scott & Company has built a reputation as a young, aggressive CPA firm, which employs talented accountants, many of whom have advanced degrees and prior experience with national CPA firms. The firm has built a broad base of clientele in every phase of the north state economy, including manufacturing, construction, lumber and logging, high tech, agriculture, transportation, retail, financial, professional, health care, governmental and non-profit. Other services include litigation consulting and expert witness testimony in the areas of bankruptcy, fraud investigations, valuation, structured settlements and damages.
The firm originally operated under the name of David H. Scott Accountancy Corporation until 1995. At the beginning of 1996, the firm was changed to a new corporation known as D. H. Scott & Company, a Professional Corporation. At that time, Keith F. Hunting was admitted as a partner to the firm, followed later in 1996 by the admission of Vivian R. Piche'. Effective January 1, 1997, the firm changed its form of organization to a limited liability partnership, known as D. H. Scott & Company, Certified Public Accountants, a Limited Liability Partnership. At that time, Patrick D. Hanly and Paul J. Catanese were admitted as partners. Larry T. Dahl became the newest partner on January 1, 2001.
FIRM PHILOSOPHY
The most fundamental philosophy of D. H. Scott & Company has been to seek out and hire the most talented, well-educated and well-trained staff as possible. This has required the Firm to hire several members of its staff from outside the Redding area who bring up-to-date technology to the organization, particularly that gained by working for Big 5 national CPA firms.
Secondly, the Firm recognizes that it is impossible for a single individual to truly be an expert in all aspects of public accounting, including tax planning, financial statement preparation, information technology, estate planning, governmental and non-profit accounting, etc. Accordingly, we provide a "team approach" wherein we bring together a team of experts to address our clients' specific needs in the areas of taxation, financial reporting, information technology and so on. The day of the sole practitioner being able to stay current in this fast paced age of technology and constant change is a thing of the past.
While D.H. Scott & Company began operations primarily through specializing in the construction and logging industries it has grown in recent years by expanding into a broad based clientele. The Firm has gained widespread recognition in all areas of the north state economy by not being narrowly focused on a single industry.
The partners of the Firm are growth oriented with plans for continued growth through active involvement in civic affairs, membership on non-profit boards and active membership in various trade organizations.
The Firm plans to continue its focus in the core accounting services of tax planning and preparation, audit, review and compilation of financial statements, information technology and general business consulting. Additional concentration has been given to expanding the information technology department with the formation of Redding Technology Partners, Inc.
Lastly, we strive to become knowledgeable in every aspect of our clients' business, always attempting to provide quality service on a timely basis and truly being concerned for our clients' well being and their "bottom line".
